This is a 2 CD box set that Columbia Records put out in 1990. It contains all the recordings Johnson is known to have made, “with the exception of an alternate take of “Traveling Riverside Blues” (Wikipedia)”.
First time I heard this collection was on a winter’s day in Chicago, must have been 2004 or 2005. Checked this out from a local library that had a nice little collection of box sets. What a treat to hear the legendary Robert Johnson’s songs, recorded in a hotel room in San Antonio, Texas (and a warehouse in Dallas) with no tricks - just a bluesman and his guitar, singing into a microphone.
A must hear for anyone who loves the blues and rock n’ roll, or claims to have any knowledge of American music. Now it’s on YouTube for all to enjoy, so press “play”.
